Liverpool Enslaved Memorial Tour Guide Training Programme

We are recruiting up to ten beginner tour guides to take part in a nine month training programme beginning Spring 2026.

This comprehensive course is designed for people who want to get involved in guiding and develop the knowledge and confidence to deliver an accurate, engaging tour focussed on Liverpool’s links to slavery. Reading will be a core part of the programme, alongside online learning and in person sessions. Practical walking tour teaching will take place in the summer.

The training supports the creation of the Liverpool Enslaved Memorial, due to be unveiled in 2027. This memorial must not be a static monument. The tour guiding programme aims to help people actively engage with the history the project commemorates, through informed, respectful public interpretation that will ensure that the physical memorial actively receives visits from people who attend.

Bursaries: Bursaries will be paid on successful completion of the course to participants aged 18 to 30, to encourage younger people to get involved.

Start Date: Spring 2026 exact date tbc

Places: Maximum ten participants

Who can apply: Open to anyone aged 18 and over. We particularly welcome applications from Liverpool’s black community
