Liverpool and Slavery Walking Tours
Welcome to our sister organisation: Liverpool and Slavery Walking Tours, where the ties that bind Liverpool’s story as the pre-eminent port for the transatlantic slave trade and home to the oldest black community in Europe are brought to life through the eyes of a respected slavery historian, activist and member of the black community.
Led by Laurence Westgaph, who has studied the transatlantic slave trade for over 30 years, he is National Museums Liverpool historian in residence and has written for Historic England and acted as a consultant to Sky Arts in its ‘Statues Redressed’ documentary. His tours provide a robustly researched and authentic perspective on Liverpool’s involvement in this dark chapter of its history with a proud upbringing in the L8 (Toxteth) black community adding a personal and poignant perspective.
Liverpool and Slavery Walking Tours offer a range of tailor-made group tours covering various parts of the city to meet your individual requirements. The tours are not only aimed at educators and students but any group who are interested in a deeper understanding of this history.
